Plywood Cup Challenge 2008

Saturday June 7th marked the 10th annual Plywood Cup Challenge at Granville Island .  We had a wonderful day and the weather cooperated with us, making it a great sunny afternoon for all who came out.

The Plywood Cup Challenge is a fundraising event held annually at Granville Island .  Teams are provided with 2 sheets of plywood, a hammer, duct tape and a handful of nails.  Each team has 90 minutes to build a seaworthy boat that is piloted across False Creek.  From the pictures below, you will note that not all boats make it across the water!  Some don’t even make it out of the docks before sinking!

This year $10,000 dollars was raised with the funds going to Big Brothers, Big Sisters, BC Special Olympics and Small Talk.

I’m happy to say that this was my fourth consecutive year involved with the event.  The Re/Max Crest team that I was apart of took first place for “First Across the Finish Line.”

I encourage anyone interested in partaking in this exciting fundraiser to become involved in next year’s event, which will take place again in June.  The event is organized by the Canadian Progress Club.
