Central Lonsdale
Bordering Lower Lonsdale to the North is Central Lonsdale, a region offering a wide range of housing options. Townhouses are the area's dominant form of housing; however, duplexes and larger scale high rise condominiums are also becoming more popular. The key advantage of this landscape is that is it centrally located, close to a vast array of amenities, including large grocery stores, all major banks, restaurants, the newly constructed City Library and much more. This area has seen stable price increases and continued development through changes to zoning by-laws, allowing for increase density.
The Central Lonsdale Corridor is currently going through a planning phase, much like Lower Lonsdale went through in previous years, to create a new vision for the area. The planning study boundaries for the region include the 100 blocks east-west between St. George's and Chesterfield and north-south from the TransCanada Hwy to 8th street. The focus of the planning group is create a space with integration of urban design, a positive pedestrian experience, while upgrading density and land use and retaining rental housing supply. With the changes to be adapted slowly over the years, Central Lonsdale is guaranteed to be an exciting area.
Most of the area in Central Lonsdale is residential:
- 68% of the floor area is residential
- 26% of floor area is commercial
- +/- 6% of floor area is institutional
